How do we stop the decline in handwriting standards?
Recent reports suggest that not enough time is devoted to handwriting lessons in school. As a result of this decline many pupils fail to develop legible joined-up handwriting.
Whatever we blame; emails, text messages or computers, the problem is, there is not enough time to teach the basic letter formation written with the correct letter movement first. Problems then arise when children try to join up their letters, as movement faults can not be corrected by themselves.
Pupils need to return back to the basics of letter formation before
they can improve their handwriting skills. The proof of a good
handwriting scheme lies in whether a large variety of children are able
to quickly develop fluent, legible, personal handwriting by learning

McLeod’s is a centre for handwriting, touch typing and dyslexia in
Central London. Specialist teacher, Amanda McLeod, works closely with
schools and Occupational Therapists to assess a student's needs and
implement a remedial handwriting programme. Students range from 4 years
to A-Level age. Mcleod's typing courses enable students to use
laptops
in classrooms. Older students also attend courses to develop
keyboarding skills prior to Secondary school.
